Updated: The BulletProof Ghost: In Spades is out now!

Update!:  The BulletProof Ghost: In Spades is out on Amazon.  This is the paperback version that you can purchase for $12.

The day has finally come!  The BulletProof Ghost: In Spades is available to purchase... kind of.

If you want to buy the physical version that will be shipped to your house, then you can to that.

The Kindle version will be out in 72 hours.  I apologize for that.  I thought if I technically published everything and kept the sales channels turned off, I could drop everything all at once, but alas, Amazon has to make things difficult.

The free preview for BPG: In Spades is available as the last post made on this blog.  If you need your BPG appetite satiated, hopefully that will suffice until your copy comes in the mail or the Kindle version pops up.  As soon as the Amazon versions appear, I'll post them on this blog and all available social media.

If you happen to live or are near Evansville, Indiana, I will be at Barnes and Noble on Green River Road from 1:30 pm until 3:00 pm selling and signing copies of both books in the BPG saga.  I hope to see you there. Stay tuned to the blog and my brand-spanking-new website for my updates.

See you around.

Newsletter, New Email Address & New York!!

I have a new email address.  I created it for the sole purpose of starting a BulletProof Ghost newsletter.  It's Jakedh@BulletProofGhost.com
I may keep an eye on the other email address for a while, but I'll be winding its use down since I'm actually paying for this new one.

Also if you want to get the new weekly newsletter when I start sending them out (probably on Sunday).  Just shoot me an email at the above address with the title 'Add Me to Newsletter'.

As far as other updates are concerned, I have a Periscope account now.  You can search for it under 'Jake dh #BPG #Author' and it should pop up.  I have a couple of broadcasts on there already.  I'm trying to use it to chronicle the process of the next announcement.

That announcement is that we are 100% going to New York for the Writer's Digest Annual Conference!  I may have mentioned this before, but there were a couple of wrenches thrown into the process that may have kept us from going.  All of that is solved now.  We are registered and all there is left to do is book the hotel and flight.

The purpose of the trip is to participate in the 'Pitch Slam'.  A Pitch Slam is where I get to pitch my book (or in my case series) to an actual literary agent.  In this case, it means I get to pitch it to 10 agents inside of an hour.  If one of them chooses to represent me, then BPG might end up being on store shelves in the near future, but only if I'm for reals published.

This is all very exciting, but I will keep pushing forward with the second draft of the second book in the series, The BulletProof Ghost: In Spades.  I should have the lion's share of the book done this weekend.  Hopefully there will be a preview up on this very blog within a couple of weeks.  I'll have some more news about In Spades later this weekend and next week.  Stay Tuned.

Thanks for the support.  This may be the beginning of a bright future for The BulletProof Ghost.\\

Fall 2014 BulletProof Blog Tour

The BulletProof Ghost is on the road... if the internet were a road, which it's not.  BPG is on the virtual road that is other author's blogs!  BPG has been featured on several blogs as of late and I thought is was high time to put them all in one place... which is here.  Check out the links below.  The posts have info that is posted all over this blog, but the author's blogs themselves may interest you.  Enjoy!

This blog refers to BPG: Prototypes as a Mystery, which it is to some extent.  I'll allow it!  Joking aside I've seen Prototypes called a mystery, horror and young adult, so however you interpret it is fine with me as long as you liked it.
And no, that is not a typo... so don't fill up the comments with,
"Jake's at it again with his goddamn typos."

Andrea is a nice lady with a neat looking blog.  Check it out as she welcomes me to the indie author scene.  Hopefully it isn't like the hard core punk and metal scenes I used to be into... mosh pits are hard on a little guy like me.  Screw it, time to throw some 'bows! (double bass pedals)

There will be more stops on the tour in the coming weeks.  As this page is updated, I'll let you know on the Twitter machine and teh Book of Face.  Laters.

Romance Beckons
Yes, BPG is not a romance series, but the author of this blog does write romance AND she was nice enough to feature me.  Check out the Author Spotlights section to see her book series featured on this page!

Ann Everett Talkin' Twang

Five on Friday Interview
This is a bit different, because it is an actual interview with yours truly (Jake dh!).  Check it out to get an insight into my slightly disturbed psyche.

Lindi Lamont (LindaLindi.com)

Suz DeMello's Velvet Lair
If you couldn't tell from the blog's title, Suz's writing can get a bit steamy. I'm glad she had room for a bullied 13 year old who is turned into an adult cybernetic killing machine.

Author Spotlight: Andrea R. Cooper

The second author in the fall Spotlight series is Andrea R. Cooper!

Son of Dragons Book 2 Legends of Oblivion series

Blurb: In a time of false peace, the dead rise as soldiers for the Warloc’s scheme. For thousands of years

he has stood ready for the final battle. Though the witch and her cursed Elvin have destroyed his physical

body, now with his protégé, he has honed a new way to wage war.

Shunned by her own people and weary-hearted from centuries of lost loves, Elvin warrior Mirhana scours

the land to silence the undead. Her heart has turned as cold as the sword she wields, until a prince seeks

her aid.

Never has Prince Landon met a woman like Mirhana. Both beautiful and deadly, she haunts his dreams.

The battle at hand becomes more enchanting than fighting to remain true to his unseen betrothed.

When a traitor emerges, new alliances are tested and the only remaining hope is to follow the prophecy

and find the ... Son of Dragons.

Excerpt:

Clean from the bath, Landon let the air from the open window dry his hair. Dressed only in

trousers, he leaned against the windowsill.

He thought he smelled the hint of roses and heat on the breeze. Movement from the

street below caught his eye. He leaned out, squinting into the night.

Torches lined the cobbled street corners. A cloaked figure waited. Then the innkeeper

rushed outside. His hands flew in gestures as the figure nodded.

Then he pointed to the window where Landon watched. At the same instant, the cloaked

figure followed his finger’s path to Landon. Green eyes that seemed to glow met his.

Landon jumped up and cursed when his head hit the bottom of the window. When he

looked back, both figures were gone.

Thinking the innkeeper would send guards, he waited with his sword in hand and his stare

riveted on the door. No one came. He must be getting paranoid, thinking there was a ghost

or enemy around every corner. His eyelids grew heavy as he waited for a fight that failed to

materialize. Finally, he rolled his shoulders back to ease out the tension.

Still, he couldn’t stop thinking about those piercing emerald eyes. They’d belonged to a

woman; he could tell. There was intelligence and cunning in them. Her stare felt as though she

saw through the façade he often wore as prince and to please others, and into his kajh.

A woman who was not afraid, but used to being feared. It unnerved him, yet excited him.

His pulse quickened and his loins tightened at the thought of those eyes filled with passion for

him.

Better get some sleep before the night was gone. Tomorrow, he’d tell Gillespie about what

he saw. He doubted he could explain those captivating green eyes that continued to haunt him

even now.

Reviews:

“We are introduced to new and wonderful creatures, and meet up with those we know and love

from the first book, as each character's unique role and journey begins to intersect... and each

will have a pivotal role in the outcome of an epic battle that is about to take place. Deception,

self discovery, and sacrifices will be made, as each character's true role is uncovered... and

in these magical lands, nothing is at it seems...Still, the book builds on the last with new and

enchanting worlds, exciting creatures, and breathtaking originality. ..A really fun read, and a

complimentary addition to the Legends of Oblivion series!” 4 1/2 stars Moonrise Book Blog

over his desire to be healed? Will he risk everything to save her from a Warloc, an oath breaker,

who also wants her dead?

Short BookBub blurb: Romance and breathtaking fantasy collide as

cursed traveler Brock falls in love with imprisoned witch Celeste. She holds

the key to his salvation — but it will come at a price....

The Garnet Dagger Excerpt: Chapter One (condensed)

I’ve known death. For over half a millennia, I escorted many to death at the end of my sword.

In the eyes of the dying, I watched it shroud them. Foolishly, I thought many more eras would

pass before death came for me. It came so swiftly that I could not run; I could not escape. At a

village, dressed in human clothes, I took in everything.

I delayed my return to my people as I watched human jugglers bounce torches and

knifes. It was autumn equinox and the festivities would continue well into the night. Children

laughed as they chased each other. A trail of leaves from their costumes twirled after them. It

was dark when I reached the forest.

A gasp rustled through the trees.

I hiked slower than my normal speed, so as not to startle whatever human called out.

My leather boots crunched upon dried, diseased leaves and bark. Horrified, I glanced up.

Branches twisted around each other to suffocating. Lifeless limbs cracked in the wind. Flesh of

the trees sloughed off in layers, exposing its bones. Gashes hollowed out chunks of warmth.

Fragments of leaves clung to finger tips, marking sepulchers of the dying trees. Trees mourned

with wails like splitting wood, and I brought my hands over my ears. I must flee before I became

infected, they told me. Flee before the stain of this defilement creeps into you, they warned.

Trees spoke to my kind, always had. Yet these trees were in such agony of death that I could

not breathe. Felt as though my lungs had folded in on themselves, like a moth unable to break

loose from its cocoon.

Cursed in Shadow Book 1.5 Legends of Oblivion series

Blurb: Cursed in Shadow is the continuation of The Garnet Dagger, Book 1 Legends

of Oblivion series. This novelette bridges Book 1 and Son of Dragons, Book 2.

After defeating the Warloc, Brock, the Elvin Vampyre, takes Celeste to Tamlon to

search the prophecies of the four and the Son of Dragons. However, the Elvin city is

not safe, even for his witch.

The Warloc’s protégé is bent on his physical return to the living. Her necromancy

brings forth Brock’s first victim and more.

Brock and Celeste must defeat prejudice and power to continue their journey and

find Brock’s twin sister, Mirhana.

Excerpt:

When I rose, the two guards sidestepped away. Nay, they would not gamble their lives again by

being within my reach.

Thankfully, since rescuing Celeste from the oak cave had taken all night, Shadowdancer was

rested for the ride back to Tamlon.

With Celeste’s wounds slathered with yarroway and other healing plants, she mounted. Then

Emillya climbed up behind her.

At least one Elvin besides me did not hate humans. If Emillya didn’t like humans, or Celeste for

that matter, she wouldn’t speak to her much less ride on a horse with her. I ran alongside them

while Celeste and Emillya talked. One guard raced on the opposite side of Shadowdancer, the

other in front. And it appeared the horse gave the Elvin a race.

The Elvin were considerate enough to let Shadowdancer canter or walk whenever he tired.

How they understood that running the horse too long too fast would be the end of him I do not

know. There have never been horses in Elvin lands for as long as I can remember.

We all took turns getting Celeste to talk to us about her cave adventure; she must stay awake

awhile longer, even though we could all see she fought to keep her eyes open.

“As soon as you’ve rested,” Emillya told her, glowering at my constant interruptions to

translate, “you need to view the prophecies of the four. Nivel gave me instructions when he left

with Brock. The library vaults await unchanged. He told me you’d come back after banishing the

Warloc to the underworld.

“Hopefully, Brock hasn’t caused unrealized damage by the oak magic trapping you.”

I nearly stumbled at her words. How was I to know snares waited to spring upon humans in our

land? Our kind was immune.

Just as I opened my mouth to voice my argument, Celeste smiled at me. Her grey eyes held a

glimmer of her merriment, and my frown eased.

With a chuckle, I turned back to the path. Celeste was safe now. And that was all that mattered.

“We’ll make camp at dark.” Emillya patted Shadowdancer’s rump. “Should make Tamlon soon.

It’s a fine horse—any other I fear would take us three or four nights to return.”

“That reminds me.” I said. “How did you get to the labyrinth so soon? The journey from Tamlon

is longer than the time of Celeste’s entrapment.”

“We have a secret path Nivel created. It’s ancient magic and travels Elvin here within an hour.”

“Then let’s take this path back.” Celeste said.

“It’s only for Elvin. The magic would crush a human and perhaps even a horse.”

“Perhaps your magic needs to be altered now.” Celeste smiled.

“Indeed.” Emillya answered. “I’ll mention the request to the elders.”

When we arrived in Tamlon, I hoped to show Celeste the wonders of my land. And bask in the

sun naked with her.

After the others slept, I laid down beside Celeste. She turned and snuggled her head under my

chin. “Your language is so beautiful. Almost like music with its rhythms and melody.”

My hand traced circles up and down her back. “Emir voulan sptrea.”

“What does that mean?”

I eased her chin up and she looked into my eyes. “We are one heart.” I kissed her and relished

in the sweetness of her mouth for we could do little else with company.

Reviews:

“I loved the first book in the series, The Garnet Dagger! Cursed in Shadow is equally spellbinding!

I was awestruck by the world building, and thoroughly enjoyed seeing where the characters would

take us. A fantastic tale, with a charming love story entwined, this is a must read for anyone who

enjoys escaping into a fantasy world where anything can happen!” 5 stars – Moonrise Book Blog

“Andrea did a fantastic job utilizing all the elements that she built into The Garnet Dagger to make this

short do the work of a novella or maybe even a full length book. I’m eagerly anticipating the release of

Sons of Dragons now!” 5 stars – Fantasy is More Fun

Andrea’s Bio: Andrea has always created characters and stories. But it wasn't until she was in

her late twenties that she started writing novels.

What happened that ignited the writing flame in her fingers? Divorced, and disillusioned by love

songs and stories. They exaggerate. She thought. Love and Romance are not like that in the real

world. Then she met her husband and realized, yes love and romance are exactly like the songs

and stories say. She is now a happy wife, and a mom to three kids (two boys and a girl).

Andrea writes paranormal and historical romance. When not writing or reading, one may find

Andrea dancing in Zumba.

She believes in the power of change and counting each moment as a blessing. But most

importantly, she believes in love.

Updates: BPG: In Spades, Geek Galaxy and Feedback on Prototypes

So, the link on the right for the physical copy has been converted into the Amazon version.  I've given several  copies of Prototypes away to friends, family and co-workers.  The feedback has been really positive.  One of my friends said he didn't know what to expect, but not what was happening in the first chunk of the book.  I guess he expected a normal super hero origin, but I tried to buck a lot of those conventions.  Origin stories are normally a little clunky and I wanted to avoid that.

I'm trying to figure out the marketing side of the self publishing biz, but I'm still stabbing in the dark without the funds I need.  I may end up doing an IndyGoGo in order to afford Geek Galaxy.  I also need more reviews for Amazon.  In order to use the newletter-type promotions, I need more reviews with a 4 star or higher average rating.  BPG Prototypes is at 3.8 due to a goddamned troll giving it a one star rating.

I suspect it might a some one I knew in college.  His name is Crazy Face, but if you look at his public wishlist it's under the name Davi and it is full of computer and camera equipment.  There is only one person I know/knew that is named David and has those specific interest (he opened up a video service for weddings or something, so that fits even more).  I shouldn't be fretting over this so much, but it's making things hard for me, but I'll overcome.  Haters gonna hate, but it still pisses me off. Once you read the book, please put up review.

*I did get a good 4 star review from a stranger that picked up the book.  This pleases my Kinetic Blade!

The BulletProof Ghost: In Spades is coming along nicely.  I have the Prologue and part of the first chapter finished.  I have a lot of scenes in mind, but I'm tempted to write them out of order.  That's not a good idea... but I may do it anyway.  I'm going to try to complete a preview in the next few weeks, since I don't have to work at my job-job next weekend like I thought I might.

Once the preview is done, I'll post it up on here.  I'm also thinking about making a 2nd Edition of Prototypes with a preview to In Spades in the back.  This would be great for Geek Galaxy.

Speaking of, Geek Galaxy has my profile up.  I'm working on a few swag designs.  I'll have pics up on the twitter and instagram.  I'm looking forward to the convention on November 15 and 16, but being the  only straight up author there is going to be a little awkward.

I'll post more updates as they come.  Thanks for the support so far!
