Update: Author Events!
Hello again,
I told you I'd start to blog more often. Of course, this isn't the normal frequency that I'll be posting. I'm on vacation for the moment, so I've got a lot of extra time on my hands.
In any case, let's get to what you're here for: All of my Upcoming Author Events!
I told you I'd start to blog more often. Of course, this isn't the normal frequency that I'll be posting. I'm on vacation for the moment, so I've got a lot of extra time on my hands.
In any case, let's get to what you're here for: All of my Upcoming Author Events!
Franklin Street Bazaar
Evansville, Indiana
August 12, 2017
Starts at 9am
Though I don't have an exact location for this as of yet, when I have it, I'll let you know. For the time being, just know that I will be there. If you're looking to snag a copy of The BulletProof Ghost: In Spades, then you'll be out of luck. Since the release of In Spades is on August 19, I will only have copies of the second edition of The BulletProof Ghost: Prototypes. I'll also have merchandise such as button pins, t-shirts and bookmarks. If you've held off on getting a copy of Prototypes until now, this would be a great opportunity to catch up on the saga.
Update: I will be at the Number 22 spot. :)
The BulletProof Ghost: In Spades Launch Event
Barnes & Noble
Evansville, Indiana
Saturday, August 19, 2017
1:30 PM - 3:00 PM
I already posted about this, but if this is the first you've heard of it...
I'm going to be releasing my second book, The BulletProof Ghost: In Spades at the Evansville, Indiana Barnes & Noble! I'll be selling and signing copies of both books. I'm pretty sure I can't sell my merch here, so it will only be books for this one. Sorry.
Evansville, Indiana
Saturday, August 26, 2017
11AM - 3 PM
I'm excited about this event because I'm going to be on a panel with other local authors. Whaaaaat!? Yes! I'm not sure on the time yet, but not only will be able to get both books and swag, but you can ask me and other authors questions about our work, the process of writing or anything else you want. That's pretty nerve-wrecking... I mean it's great. It is great. Not nervous at all.
Tri-Con
Holiday Inn by Evansville Airport
7101 US-41, Evansville, IN 47725
Friday noon-midnight
Saturday 8am – midnight
Sunday 9am – 5pm
Saturday 8am – midnight
Sunday 9am – 5pm
Tri-Con is a multi-genre nerd culture event. Scifi, fantasy, horror, literature, comics, cosplay, anime and much more convene in Evansville for a weekend of awesomeness.
So this is a big one. Three days, much like Geek Galaxy a few years ago, but much bigger. More people. Long hours. This is fine for me. I love big events like this. At this event, I will just be a vender with my books and swag. I hope to have the compilation book and/or the hardback version of Prototypes & In Spades on sale by then. I also may launch the first Dreadful short story on the first day of Tri-Con. More information on that as I work the specifics of BPG Hardback/Dreadful Launch. I may have an other surprise or two for the event, so keep an eye on Twitter @thebproofghost and this blog.
These are all of the events that I've 100% confirmed. I wanted to talk about several of them for a while, but I needed to make sure I wasn't giving out bad info if they were out of room or my book/swag didn't meet their requirements. Thanks for your patience.
I'm also aware all of these events are local. In Evansville, Indiana. Honestly, it just sort of worked out like that. The Bazaar, the museum and Tri-Con were bunched up together in less than a month's span. Releasing In Spades locally makes sense as far as supporting the community. Not to mention it makes maxing out the potential attendance of the event.
I will schedule events later in September that take place further away from home. In fact if you don't live near southern Indiana and would like to have me at an event or come to your local bookstore for a signing. Send me an email at jakedh@bulletproofghost.com . I'll see what I can do.
Thanks for the support and I'll keep the updates coming.

New York Trip, Owensboro Signing, Appearance on Evansville Podcast, New Stories and more!
Wow, there are a lot of updates to get to. I would have updated the blog last week, but after the New York City trip, I was exhausted. Honestly, I just needed a day to chill out. I'm rested (for the most part) and ready to get everyone up to speed.
First and foremost, I was on Evansville Podcast talking about BulletProof Ghost, among other things, but mostly BPG. You can check out the episode here. For my first interview, I think it went pretty well, especially considering how little sleep I got. I also talk about some of the origins of BPG that I may not have touched on in this blog. I was supposed to be on Owensboro's Own, but scheduling/job-job overtime/lack of sleep prevented me from being on that show. I'm not sure when/if I will be on now, but I'll post it up on Twitter ( @thebroofghost ) as soon as possible. You can check out the podcast series here.
Next on the list of updates: I will be at Big Bang Comics and Toys in Owensboro, KY on Saturday, August 27 from 10am until 4pm signing copies of The BulletProof Ghost Prototypes or anything else you want me to sign. I will have other items like button pins and a limited supply of shirts. The books will be $9. Generally, I've learned that events like this don't sell a lot of books, but maybe this will break the mold.
In case you didn't know, I went to New York City to take part in the Writers Digest Conference 2016 (WDC16). I was specifically there to take place in what is called a Pitch Slam. I know this sounds like a sex position, but stick with me. I pitched BPG to 5 literary agents in the span of an hour. I was flatly rejected by three of them due to the fact the book had already been self published.
An agent said she liked the pitch, but because of the self published status and less than stellar sales, she couldn't give BPG to her publisher, but... and this is a big but, she gave me her card. She liked the pitch enough that she offered to check out the next book I wrote that was not BPG related. Okay, I'll take that.
The first agent I talked to wanted to see the book regardless. I may have failed/forgot to mention that this specific book was self-published. I made sure to let her know in the email I literally just sent her. I think that she'll turn it down due to that technicality. That doesn't make me sad or anything, it just means that BPG is going to be self-published and possibly indie-published for a while if not exclusively.
One of the things I learned at the conference is that I have to market myself as an author more and not just concentrate of The BulletProof Ghost. This is my baby, but I have to branch out and create new stories if I ever want to do this for a living, which I do. I will be altering the blog and website a little bit to reflect me as a writer, instead of focusing solely on BPG. The urls will stay the same, but I'll be altering the graphics and images a bit.
I'm also outlining a new book specifically to send to agents within the year. I'm going to try my hand at fantasy (or so it will seem). I'm also writing a few horror short stories that I'll be posting on here for free. The first story may be up as early as next week, because I've already started writing it. The short stories will be pretty raw and unedited, but this is a blog, not a published piece.
That's about it. You'll be getting new short stories for free. The next BPG novel is more or less finished and in the process of being edited. And if that wasn't enough, I'll be starting an entirely new novel/series... well next weekend if all goes well.
Thanks for the support and I'll see you later.

Mating Rituals - Rules of The Ball #Excerpt
A full length - hot off-world fantasy
Blurb:
With rock-hard fortitude, Marohka Taunton battles to maintain her position as top mineralogist and
refuses to see why she should marry even if the law requires she take a mate. Fighting her attraction for Stihl Fermesium, she struggles to save her father’s company. Stihl, determined to win her as his mate, is faced with the commission deal of a lifetime and needs the money to save his family land. He wrestles with her emotional resistance and discovers someone other than Marohka is unhappy about their union. In fact, they want to separate them in the most basic of ways, death.
“All right, ladies, please line up for the final event of the evening–The Ladies Parade,”
a voice boomed from the speakers. “Give your partner a smile and a curtsy, and then ascend the
stairs to the stage area.”
“Right,” Marohka reasoned, “like I need any man.”
Harold, the father presenter, liked to follow the old habit of bowing to one’s partner. The
custom to him added romance and grandeur to the evening. She could’ve told him differently,
but with him being an old stick from a bygone era and a hopeless romantic, he wouldn’t have
listened.
“Now, gentlemen, here are the rules. Although, you might know them, I’ll restate them
again so no problems will occur because you forgot what you’re supposed to do.” Harold paused
a moment and scanned the crowd. “So listen carefully.”
Marohka and the other girls started up both sides of the twin staircases. Harold stood
at the top of the landing, dressed in his usual green plaid suit. His cheeks colored with his
excitement.
“Each one of these lovely ladies will be carrying a small placard with a number printed
on it.” Harold showed them a sample card. “The number is not how many mates she desires.”
The crowd broke into the expected laughter. Harold grinned.
She wished her sign displayed a zero. Even one man was more than she needed. All
evening, she’d avoided them. If a man approached, she offered him a rude comment and walked
away to prove her lack of interest in catching a mate.
“If you’re attracted to a certain lady and want to meet her in the mating arena, take note
of her number. If you write down the wrong number, you’ll be matched with a different girl,
which would result in an unwelcome surprise.” Harold released a small cough of humor.
“You can choose three women. In the end, however, you’ll only be mated with one.”
A good-natured roar of disappointment exploded from the men in the hall. Marohka
rolled her eyes at the typical male response.
Harold sighed. “Sorry, boys, that’s the rule. The Council of Elders will determine which
girl on your list will become your mate. Then it’s up to you to pass the next challenges. The first
duel is at three sharp in the battling arena. Be sure to check the schedule. If you miss your fight
time, you’ll be out of the running and will have to wait until next year.”
Turning to the girls standing beside him, Harold added. “Ladies, don’t worry. An escort
will be sent to your room to make sure you arrive on time.”
As the oldest unmated girl, Marohka stood at the front of the line. Her future suspended
on the edge of success. She’d led the other girls down the red carpet, along the edge of the dance
floor, through the ballroom, and then back up the twin staircase on the other side of the room
many times. She drew in a deep breath, preparing for her final steps to freedom.
Harold glanced at her and nodded. “At the top of the list from the Taunton family is our
special princess, Marohka. A smart girl, she’ll offer any man a stimulating adventure, where life
will never be boring. She works hard and . . .”
Stepping forward, she cut off Harold’s words by moving off the stage and out of the
spotlight. She detested the Royal Presenter selling her to these men. With her job of finding
qualtrilium and keeping her father’s company afloat, she had all the challenges she needed in
Lustralia’s law might require Royal girls to be present at the charade. But with this being
her final year of mandatory attendance, victory stood in sight. All she had to do was navigate
the man-infested waters between here and the staircase on the other side of the room. Freedom
waited.
She reached the bottom of the staircase. Her path led her past a legion of men. From tall,
dark, and handsome to fair-haired wonders, an array of eligible men lined her route. Dressed in
fine, silk coats and tight fitted pants, they represented hundreds of Royal families across the great
land. All showed excellent breeding and genteel manners. Any one of them would make a good
mate to the girls behind her, but none tempted her to lose her freedom.
Staring straight ahead, she avoided eye contact with every man she passed. Moving
along the edge of the dance floor, she wove her way back and forth across the assigned path. Her
steps, jerky and clumsy, she hid her natural smooth gait. No man, in his right mind, craved an
ungraceful wife. At least, she hoped not.
With the stairs a few steps ahead, she tasted victory and allowed herself a sigh of relief.
“Thank goodness.”
A masculine voice in front of her chuckled. “It’s not over yet, princess.”
Tina Gayle is currently working on two different series. The last book in the
Executive Wives’ Club series will be coming out 2014. This series combines elements
of women fiction with the passion of romance.
The Family Tree series has two books out with Fallen Leaves release in April
of 2014. A paranormal romantic suspense series, the books follow the keeper of the
Winston manor and the trials she has to overcome to remain in the house of her
ancestors.

The Garnet Dagger Excerpt: Chapter One (condensed)
I’ve known death. For over half a millennia, I escorted many to death at the end of my sword.
In the eyes of the dying, I watched it shroud them. Foolishly, I thought many more eras would
pass before death came for me. It came so swiftly that I could not run; I could not escape. At a
village, dressed in human clothes, I took in everything.
I delayed my return to my people as I watched human jugglers bounce torches and
knifes. It was autumn equinox and the festivities would continue well into the night. Children
laughed as they chased each other. A trail of leaves from their costumes twirled after them. It
was dark when I reached the forest.
A gasp rustled through the trees.
I hiked slower than my normal speed, so as not to startle whatever human called out.
My leather boots crunched upon dried, diseased leaves and bark. Horrified, I glanced up.
Branches twisted around each other to suffocating. Lifeless limbs cracked in the wind. Flesh of
the trees sloughed off in layers, exposing its bones. Gashes hollowed out chunks of warmth.
Fragments of leaves clung to finger tips, marking sepulchers of the dying trees. Trees mourned
with wails like splitting wood, and I brought my hands over my ears. I must flee before I became
infected, they told me. Flee before the stain of this defilement creeps into you, they warned.
Trees spoke to my kind, always had. Yet these trees were in such agony of death that I could
not breathe. Felt as though my lungs had folded in on themselves, like a moth unable to break
loose from its cocoon.

Son of Dragons Book 2 Legends of Oblivion series
Blurb: In a time of false peace, the dead rise as soldiers for the Warloc’s scheme. For thousands of years
he has stood ready for the final battle. Though the witch and her cursed Elvin have destroyed his physical
body, now with his protégé, he has honed a new way to wage war.
Shunned by her own people and weary-hearted from centuries of lost loves, Elvin warrior Mirhana scours
the land to silence the undead. Her heart has turned as cold as the sword she wields, until a prince seeks
her aid.
Never has Prince Landon met a woman like Mirhana. Both beautiful and deadly, she haunts his dreams.
The battle at hand becomes more enchanting than fighting to remain true to his unseen betrothed.
When a traitor emerges, new alliances are tested and the only remaining hope is to follow the prophecy
and find the ... Son of Dragons.
Excerpt:
Clean from the bath, Landon let the air from the open window dry his hair. Dressed only in
trousers, he leaned against the windowsill.
He thought he smelled the hint of roses and heat on the breeze. Movement from the
street below caught his eye. He leaned out, squinting into the night.
Torches lined the cobbled street corners. A cloaked figure waited. Then the innkeeper
rushed outside. His hands flew in gestures as the figure nodded.
Then he pointed to the window where Landon watched. At the same instant, the cloaked
figure followed his finger’s path to Landon. Green eyes that seemed to glow met his.
Landon jumped up and cursed when his head hit the bottom of the window. When he
looked back, both figures were gone.
Thinking the innkeeper would send guards, he waited with his sword in hand and his stare
riveted on the door. No one came. He must be getting paranoid, thinking there was a ghost
or enemy around every corner. His eyelids grew heavy as he waited for a fight that failed to
materialize. Finally, he rolled his shoulders back to ease out the tension.
Still, he couldn’t stop thinking about those piercing emerald eyes. They’d belonged to a
woman; he could tell. There was intelligence and cunning in them. Her stare felt as though she
saw through the façade he often wore as prince and to please others, and into his kajh.
A woman who was not afraid, but used to being feared. It unnerved him, yet excited him.
His pulse quickened and his loins tightened at the thought of those eyes filled with passion for
him.
Better get some sleep before the night was gone. Tomorrow, he’d tell Gillespie about what
he saw. He doubted he could explain those captivating green eyes that continued to haunt him
even now.

“We are introduced to new and wonderful creatures, and meet up with those we know and love
from the first book, as each character's unique role and journey begins to intersect... and each
will have a pivotal role in the outcome of an epic battle that is about to take place. Deception,
self discovery, and sacrifices will be made, as each character's true role is uncovered... and
in these magical lands, nothing is at it seems...Still, the book builds on the last with new and
enchanting worlds, exciting creatures, and breathtaking originality. ..A really fun read, and a
complimentary addition to the Legends of Oblivion series!” 4 1/2 stars Moonrise Book Blog

Cursed in Shadow Book 1.5 Legends of Oblivion series
Blurb: Cursed in Shadow is the continuation of The Garnet Dagger, Book 1 Legends
of Oblivion series. This novelette bridges Book 1 and Son of Dragons, Book 2.
After defeating the Warloc, Brock, the Elvin Vampyre, takes Celeste to Tamlon to
search the prophecies of the four and the Son of Dragons. However, the Elvin city is
not safe, even for his witch.
The Warloc’s protégé is bent on his physical return to the living. Her necromancy
brings forth Brock’s first victim and more.
Brock and Celeste must defeat prejudice and power to continue their journey and
find Brock’s twin sister, Mirhana.
Excerpt:
When I rose, the two guards sidestepped away. Nay, they would not gamble their lives again by
being within my reach.
Thankfully, since rescuing Celeste from the oak cave had taken all night, Shadowdancer was
rested for the ride back to Tamlon.
With Celeste’s wounds slathered with yarroway and other healing plants, she mounted. Then
Emillya climbed up behind her.
At least one Elvin besides me did not hate humans. If Emillya didn’t like humans, or Celeste for
that matter, she wouldn’t speak to her much less ride on a horse with her. I ran alongside them
while Celeste and Emillya talked. One guard raced on the opposite side of Shadowdancer, the
other in front. And it appeared the horse gave the Elvin a race.
The Elvin were considerate enough to let Shadowdancer canter or walk whenever he tired.
How they understood that running the horse too long too fast would be the end of him I do not
know. There have never been horses in Elvin lands for as long as I can remember.
We all took turns getting Celeste to talk to us about her cave adventure; she must stay awake
awhile longer, even though we could all see she fought to keep her eyes open.
“As soon as you’ve rested,” Emillya told her, glowering at my constant interruptions to
translate, “you need to view the prophecies of the four. Nivel gave me instructions when he left
with Brock. The library vaults await unchanged. He told me you’d come back after banishing the
Warloc to the underworld.
“Hopefully, Brock hasn’t caused unrealized damage by the oak magic trapping you.”
I nearly stumbled at her words. How was I to know snares waited to spring upon humans in our
land? Our kind was immune.
Just as I opened my mouth to voice my argument, Celeste smiled at me. Her grey eyes held a
glimmer of her merriment, and my frown eased.
With a chuckle, I turned back to the path. Celeste was safe now. And that was all that mattered.
“We’ll make camp at dark.” Emillya patted Shadowdancer’s rump. “Should make Tamlon soon.
It’s a fine horse—any other I fear would take us three or four nights to return.”
“That reminds me.” I said. “How did you get to the labyrinth so soon? The journey from Tamlon
is longer than the time of Celeste’s entrapment.”
“We have a secret path Nivel created. It’s ancient magic and travels Elvin here within an hour.”
“Then let’s take this path back.” Celeste said.
“It’s only for Elvin. The magic would crush a human and perhaps even a horse.”
“Perhaps your magic needs to be altered now.” Celeste smiled.
“Indeed.” Emillya answered. “I’ll mention the request to the elders.”
When we arrived in Tamlon, I hoped to show Celeste the wonders of my land. And bask in the
sun naked with her.
After the others slept, I laid down beside Celeste. She turned and snuggled her head under my
chin. “Your language is so beautiful. Almost like music with its rhythms and melody.”
My hand traced circles up and down her back. “Emir voulan sptrea.”
“What does that mean?”
I eased her chin up and she looked into my eyes. “We are one heart.” I kissed her and relished
in the sweetness of her mouth for we could do little else with company.

“I loved the first book in the series, The Garnet Dagger! Cursed in Shadow is equally spellbinding!
I was awestruck by the world building, and thoroughly enjoyed seeing where the characters would
take us. A fantastic tale, with a charming love story entwined, this is a must read for anyone who
enjoys escaping into a fantasy world where anything can happen!” 5 stars – Moonrise Book Blog
“Andrea did a fantastic job utilizing all the elements that she built into The Garnet Dagger to make this
short do the work of a novella or maybe even a full length book. I’m eagerly anticipating the release of
Sons of Dragons now!” 5 stars – Fantasy is More Fun
Andrea’s Bio: Andrea has always created characters and stories. But it wasn't until she was in
her late twenties that she started writing novels.
What happened that ignited the writing flame in her fingers? Divorced, and disillusioned by love
songs and stories. They exaggerate. She thought. Love and Romance are not like that in the real
world. Then she met her husband and realized, yes love and romance are exactly like the songs
and stories say. She is now a happy wife, and a mom to three kids (two boys and a girl).
Andrea writes paranormal and historical romance. When not writing or reading, one may find
Andrea dancing in Zumba.
She believes in the power of change and counting each moment as a blessing. But most
