BPG Universe: DiaMetal

This is the fourth entry in the BPG Universe series of posts.  DiaMetal was originally called Invincialloy.  Invincialloy is long, hard to pronounce and not accurate.  It's a name I came up with when I was 14 and never bothered to change, until now.  DiaMetal is not invincible.

DiaMetal:

DiaMetal is the type of alloy/metal that the Biodisian cyborgs and synthetics are made out of.  All of the BulletProof Ghosts armor and synthetic implants are made of DiaMetal (except for his eye lenses).  Creator William's Fortress is reenforced with DiaMetal.  Most of the Envirooms are lined with the substance (more on Envirooms later).

DiaMetal is stronger than steel, but is not indestructible.  There are conventional, non-Biodisian technology that can damage DiaMetal, but only high level military weaponry.  There is no type of conventional bullet that can pierce DiaMetal.  Theoretically DiaMetal bullet propelled with a kinetic Energy burst could punch through a cyber/synth's armor, but William considers bullets to be a savage's weapon.

DiaMetal is created through a process that involves taking a Biodisian metal that is more or less as strong as steel and combining it at the molecular level with diamonds.  The result is a metal that has the hardness of diamonds and steel while ridding itself of diamond's shatter points.  It keeps the flexability of metal.

In, The BulletProof Ghost: In Spades, Kyle recieves his title (as well as the title of the series) due to his DiaMetal armor being impervious to gunfire.  The other half comes from the masking device's effect.

Other ways DiaMetal can be damaged or destroyed:

1. Some conventional weaponry: High powered rockets and explosives (C4) can damage or in some cases, breach DiaMetal.

2. Kinetic Blades: Kinetic Blades can slice through most known matter, including DiaMetal.

3. Pure Energy: Pure Energy (capitalized Energy) atomizes all matter that it comes in tact with.  DiaMetal has some resistance to this, but only compared to conventional metals.  Synth and cybernetic power sources are made out of this Energy.  Energy blasters have the ability to shoot pure Energy, but only one or two small bursts before their blasters malfunction from being slight atomized on the inside.  A fully charge blast may disintegrate the DiaMetal arm attatched to the blaster.

4.  Most high powered Energy blasts:  Explosive and heat blasts can damage DiaMetal if charged to high enough levels.  Only a fully charged kinetic blast can dent DiaMetal armor.

Final draft woes and delayed release...

So, first off, things are moving faster than I thought in one way.  The one way being that Sarah is reading and editing BPG: Prototypes.  The problem is that she is really thorough about how she edits.  This is great for quality.  The story's style is being improved two fold.  I tend to describe things in far to much detail, which makes the story too long and takes the reader out of the story.  She completed 5 out of 91 pages tonight (we're talking full pages, not paperback or even hardback).  I don't think she's going to do this for this long ever single night.

This may end up pushing the release back to March, late March.  This isn't a bad thing.  I've learned a lesson to take each chapter or section and have Sarah edit it, which will stretch the process out, instead of piling it all on her at once.  I'm really happy with how the story is turning out, but frustrated with having to wait for release.  The book will be much better as a result, so I'll be patient, but that typically isn't one of my virtues.

I joked that she was going to bust me down to novelette status, but a lot of the removed content, is really being rearranged for a more concise story.  The action/fight sequences are more focused on the fighting, rather than the thoughts of Kyle/Five.  The thoughts and feelings are still there, but in their own sections.  This increases the tension in the fights.

I've been getting a lot more followers on my social networking sites.  Thanks for the interest and I promise, I'll have a preview out by the weekend.  It just may be another month after that before the full novel is released.  I've been off work the last two days, because of weather, so I've had time to focus on BPG, but normally I have very little time to work on the social networking or editing aspects of BPG.  I tend to beast it on the weekends when everyone else is asleep.

Stay tuned.

There will be a physical version of BPG: Prototypes

So, I've been talking about a possible physical version of Prototypes for a while now.  I'm officially calling it, there is going to be a hold in your hands version of The BulletProof Ghost: Prototypes.  Hooray!  I wasn't aware that Amazon has a free, print on demand service.  I'm not sure on pricing yet, but I'll post it up on FB and Twitter.  There's even a bookstore option, but we'll see if that's possible, for the moment its not.

Currently the 2nd draft is done and printed out.  I may be working on the final draft as soon as next week.  I'd like to work on it sooner, but my second set of eyes is starting to read it tomorrow.

I'll spend this weekend working on the second volume's outline, which I have a lot of good, new ideas for the plot.  The BulletProof Ghost: In Spades is more than likely going to be the title.  This references the criminal organization that's been using Dilbane, Kyle's hometown, as a base of operations.  After the aftermath of the events of the first book, Kyle and Co. have to figure out their next steps.  Kyle will also become labeled by the public/media.  Slight spoiler, he isn't called The BulletProof Ghost in Prototypes at all, but his is referenced to as a ghost (which I wasn't going to do originally, but it fit really well in one scene, so I went with it).  Agent Susan Gojen tries to unravel the mysteries of Dilbane from a normal person's perspective.  Irene and Al, already knowing the answers to these mysteries, have a harder time dealing with their new reality.

That's a little preview to the second book.

I'll also be releasing a video trailer for the book about a week before release.  Don't forget about the free copy you can get a few weeks from now.  Stay tuned.

The Cover, Physical Copies and Status of BPG: Prototypes

So first off, for those of you that don't follow the Twitter feed or the Facebook page, the cover for The BulletProof Ghost: Prototypes is finished.  Thanks to James Price of AEP Book Covers.

The official cover of BPG: Prototypes

The most recent profile pic of... well all that is BPG at the moment.

I'm impressed and glad that the cover turned out this well for a decent price (half of the comic cover).

The second draft of BPG:P1 is going great.  I have to put a few final touches on it and then Sarah gets to read 90 pages of Kyle's origin story.  She hasn't read anything BPG oriented... well ever, so I hope it goes well.  Sarah is my wife in case you didn't know.  She's voluteered to read the second draft and give me a second set of eyes to help edit and correct anything that might be confusing.  The story has been rattling around in my head for so long, I may need a little perspective.

Physical copies... I want to do a physical copy of BPG (I've had at least four people personally ask me about it).  I'm looking into options, but the physical copy will be substantially more expensive than an ebook; both for me and the readers.  I'll keep you updated if I end up deciding on an outlet, but it will more than likely be after the digital version releases.

For the moment, that is all that is up with BPG.  We are getting close to release.  I should have a release date in a week or two.  I'll keep everyone in the loop on when the free copy drops.  Remember, you'll have to contact me within a certain time period in order to get ahold of BPG: Prototypes for free.  Thanks again.  Stay Tuned.
