BPG Original Linear Issue #4


PAGE ONE (four panels)

Panel  1. FOUR is lying on a metal looking bed that is attached to the floor.  He has no armor on his upper body, only on his lower body.  FOUR is unconscious.  The view is from above.  NO DIALOGUE.

Panel  2. The view is from the side.  FOUR’s eyes are open as if waking up.   NO DIALOGUE.

Panel  3. FOUR is standing up in a defensive position with his wrist blades extended.

1 FIVE/KYLE:                                   YOU MIGHT WANT TO CALM DOWN FOR A SECOND.

Panel  4. KYLE is sitting at a metal table and chair in the corner with Four’s armor.  KYLE is still in full armor.  FOUR’S helmet is on the table.  His chest piece and arms pieces are on the floor next to the table.  What looks to be a welding tool is coming from under KYLE’S left pointing finger.

2 FOUR:                                             SYNTHETIC PROTOTYPE? NO.  I WAS BLOCKING YOUR SENSORS.  WILLIAM COMMANDED IT.  THIS IS AN EXTENSION OF OUR MASKING DEVICE.

1 KYLE:                                             THAT’S WHAT WE USE TO BECOME INVISIBLE? 

2 FOUR:                                             CORRECT.  YOU WILL EVENTUALLY BE ABLE TO TELL THAT YOUR SENSORS BEING BLOCKED, EVEN IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT IS BLOCKING THEM.  THAT IS WHY THERE ARE NO SURVEILLANCE DEVICES IN THIS FACILITY.  AT LEAST IN THE LIVING QUARTERS.

1 KYLE:                                             WE WOULD KNOW WE’RE BEING WATCHED IF THERE WERE.

1 FOUR:                                             MY ORIGINAL QUESTION REMAINS UNANSWERED.  HOW DID COME TO BE LYING UNCONSCIOUS IN YOUR QUARTERS?

1 KYLE:                                             OH MY GOD…THIS... THIS ISN’T A SYNTH!

1 WILLIAM:                                      HE FAILED THE PREVIOUS TEST, BUT  HE SURVIVED.  IF HE DEFEATED YOU THEN I WOULD USE HIM IN MY FUTURE PLANS, BUT SINCE YOU ARE THE VICTOR.

Panel  1. KYLE is swatting the blaster to the side while standing in front of the fallen FOUR.  The blaster goes off and the blast explodes to the side of them, missing FOUR.  NO DIALOGUE.

1 WILLIAM:                                      WHAT IS THIS!?

2 KYLE:                                             THIS ISN’T RIGHT… I CAN’T LET YOU DO THAT.  I CAN’T LET YOU KILL HIM.

3 WILLIAM:                                      HE FAILED.  HE KNEW WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF HE FAILED.

2 KYLE:                                                         I… MY MOM WOULD BE ASHAMED OF ME IF I LET HIM KILL YOU.  YOU WERE DEFENSELESS.  LIKE.... LIKE I ALWAYS WAS.

1 KYLE:                                                         HOW?  IF WE MESS WITH THEM, THEY'LL GO OFF.  OUR NANITES CAN'T HANDLE THAT TYPE OF DAMAGE TO OUR NERVOUS SYSTEM.

2 FOUR:                                                         WILLIAM HAS A COMPUTER NETWORK WHERE HE KEEPS HIS INFORMATION, RUNS HIS ISLAND, ETC.  IT HAS WIRELESS ACCESS.  I WOULD NEED TO BREAK INTO THE SYSTEM WITHOUT HIS KNOWLEDGE.  THIS COULD TAKE TIME.

2 KYLE:                                                         IT’S TO KEEP ME FROM BEING NORMAL, OR EVEN RELATIVELY NORMAL.

Panel  1. IRENE  (age 13) is standing in the rain.  It’s dark and the shot is close up so you can see a little bit of the background, which is a cemetery.  Her face is sad, but she isn’t crying. 

1 IRENE (narration box)                                WITH EVERYTHING ELSE THAT’S HAPPENED SINCE THEN, IT ISN’T AS HARD TO THINK ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO KYLE.  HOURS AGO I COULDN’T EVEN TALK ABOUT IT, BUT NOW AFTER EVERYTHING THAT’S HAPPENED…

Panel  2. Irene is still standing wearing all black, which is for the funeral she just attended (in the panel timeline, not in the narration storyline).  A figure can be seen walking towards her from behind.  The figure is Al for future reference. 

1 AL:                                                               YOUR DAD SAID I’D FIND YOU HERE.  HE SAID YOU CAME BACK AS SOON AS HE TOOK YOU HOME.

2 IRENE:                                                        AL. 

Panel  3.  IRENE and AL and standing across from one another, with half a foot facing each other in the pouring rain.  IRENE is crying now.

1 IRENE:                                                        I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO.  WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?  HE’S DEAD.  HE’S….

Panel  4.  IRENE is on her knees facing KYLE’S gravestone.  The view is from the side with the gravestone in panel. 

1 IRENE:                                                        HE’S F*CKING DEAD.  NO ONE CARES.  THEY’RE SAYING HE KILLED HIMSELF... I… I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT.

Panel  7. AL and IRENE are standing now.  Tears are streaming down both of their faces.  AL is facing away from IRENE toward the panel.

1 AL:                                                               NOW I HAVE TO RUN AWAY LIKE A COWARD… MY DAD… WE’RE MOVING.

2 IRENE:                                                        WHAT?

3 AL:                                                               HE SAYS THIS PLACE IS TOO MUCH FOR ME… WHAT’S HAPPENED HERE.  HE IS MOVING TO JAPAN FOR A BUSINESS DEAL.  HE WAS GOING TO HAVE ME LIVE WITH MY MOM, BUT…

1 IRENE:                                                        FOR HOW LONG?

Panel  1. IRENE (age 18) in the same type of shot, but it’s day and very bright outside.  She is dressed in a short sleeve button-up shirt that is slightly provocative.  For later reference she has slightly baggy jeans on and a black bracelet with metal spikes on them.   Her hair is different, in a ponytail (this is listed in her bio page).  She has red highlights in her hair as well. 

1 IRENE (narration box)                                THIS IS TODAY.

Panel  2. IRENE is walking up the steps to Dilbane High School.  The shot is far away and there are several other students in the panel.  NO DIALOGUE.

Panel  3. IRENE is in the school walking to her locker.  The shot is from the side.  IRENE is holding books in her arms.  She is looking behind her in response to LINDSAY yelling at her.

1 LINDSAY:                                                  HEY BITCH!  I’M F*CKING TALKING TO YOU.

Panel  4. IRENE is being pushed by LINDSAY into a locker.  IRENE has an angry look on her face.

1 IRENE (narration box)                                THIS IS LINDSAY.  SHE IS NICK’S GIRL AT THE MOMENT.  THIS ISN’T A SURPRISE GIVEN HER LOVABLE AND WARM PERSONALITY.

2 IRENE:                                                        WHAT THE HELL?

3 LINDSAY:                                                  YOU TOOK MY PARKING SPOT.  I TOLD YOU NOT TO PARK THERE.

Panel  5. IRENE is pushing back.  LINDSAY’S back is in the panel.  IRENE is in the defensive stance and looks angry.

1 IRENE:                                                        THIS IS ABOUT SOMETHING THAT TRIVIAL?  LEAVE ME ALONE.

2 NICK (off panel):                                        IRENE, BUT SHE ASKED YOU SO NICELY.  YOU SHOULD GO MOVE IT.  NOW.

1 IRENE:                                                        BUT I’LL BE LATE FOR CLASS.  I… F*CK THIS.

Panel  6. NICK is grabbing IRENE by the wrist.  He is reaching back to slap her.  The panel view is from the side slightly.  IRENE’S face can be seen looking frightened, but emboldened.

IRENE: NICK!

Panel  7.  NICK’S ‘slapping hand’ is being grabbed by someone unseen.  NO DIALOGUE.

Panel  1. The panel view is from the side.  NICK is being punched in the face.  Blood is coming out of his mouth.  His eyes are closed and the puncher is still out of panel. NO DIALOGUE.

Panel  2.  AL (age 18) is in panel in his black trench coat.  The panel view is from the front.  There are other students backing off due to their fear of the student who just smoked NICK in the face.

1 AL:                                                               I THINK SHE SAID TO LEAVE HER ALONE.

Panel  3. AL is punching NICK with a straight forward punch.  The panel view is low with NICK’S head not entirely in view. 

Panel  4. NICK slams up against the lockers.  No dialogue.

Panel  5. JOSH is running at AL from behind.  JOSH is at least seven feet away. 

1 JOSH:                                                          YOU’RE DEAD!

Panel  6. AL is using a side kick to hit JOSH in the stomach.  JOSH looks surprised, in pain, and out of breath.    The view is from the side. No dialogue.

Panel  7.  The other three friends of NICK are around AL now in the circle.  The other students are staying out of the way.  Some teachers are wading far in the background trying to get to the fight.  AL is standing calm and cool.  The other three are in a crouched offensive position.

Panel  8. AL is swiping at one with his foot in a back arcing roundhouse. No dialogue.

Panel  9. AL is ducking while one of the three hits the other in the face.  No dialogue.

Panel  10. AL is upper cutting the final of NICK’S crew into unconsciousness.  The others are laid out in the panel accordingly. AL didn’t even get a hand laid on him. NO DIALOGUE.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

PAGE ELEVEN (six panels)

Panel  1. A teacher has finally come to ‘intervene’.  He is grabbing AL by the shoulder.

1 TEACHER:                                                 MADDINGTON… AL MADDINGTON… WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?

Panel 2.  AL is walking off panel shrugging his shoulders.

1 AL:                                                               DEFENDING MYSELF.

2 TEACHER:                                                             PRINCIPAL’S OFFICE.  NOW.

Panel  3.  IRENE is sitting across the table from AL in the cafeteria.   The view is from above.

1 IRENE:                                                        THANKS FOR EARLIER.  THINGS WITH NICK HAVEN’T CHANGED THAT MUCH SINCE YOU LEFT.

2 AL:                                                               I NOTICED.

Panel  4. The panel is a close up of IRENE.

1 IRENE:                                                        FIVE YEARS.  YOUR DAD KEPT YOU IN JAPAN FOR FIVE YEARS.  NOW YOU’RE BACK?

2 AL:                                                               YEAH, SPEAKING ENGLISH AGAIN IS A LITTLE OFFSETTING, BUT I’LL GET USED TO IT.

Panel  5. Close up on AL eating a sandwich.

1 IRENE:                                                        IF I MAY INQUIRE, WHERE DID YOU LEARN TO FIGHT LIKE THAT?

2 AL:                                                               JAPAN.

3 IRENE:                                                        I MEAN WHERE IN JAPAN?

4 AL:                                                               IT’S SORT OF A LONG STORY… I’LL TELL YOU SOME OTHER TIME… K?

Panel 1. KYLE is putting on his armor in front of FOUR.  They are in the quarters that they were when we left them years prior.

1 KYLE (narration box)                                 I HAD TRAINED FOR OVER A YEAR AND A HALF.  I HAD BEEN AWAY FOR FIVE YEARS.  TODAY WAS THE DAY WILLIAM WANTED ME KILL MY MURDERERS.  THIS IS THE DAY I PLANNED TO DISAPPOINT HIM.

Panel 2. KYLE is holding his helmet under his arm looking at FOUR.

1 KYLE:                                                         HOW CLOSE ARE YOU?

2 FOUR:                                                         WITHIN THE HOUR I’LL HAVE ACCESS TO THE FILES.  I APOLOGIZE FOR THE TIME, BUT THERE IS NOT ANOTHER WAY.

3 KYLE:                                                         WE’RE CUTTING IT DAMN CLOSE THAT’S FOR SURE.  I’LL GO TO WILLIAM FOR BRIEFING, THEN I’LL TAKE MY TIME TO HELP BOTH OF US OUT.  TO KEEP US ALIVE.

Panel 3. KYLE is standing in front of WILLIAM.  WILLIAM has his hands behind his back glaring forward.  KYLE looks at ease, not a typical soldier in the least bit.  They are in WILLIAM'S main chamber.  There is a huge computer screen and odd controls placed throughout the chamber.  A chair is placed in front of the screen.

1 WILLIAM:                                                  YOUR MISSION IS TO ELIMATE NICK VYLE, JOSH, SIGMEN, FREDRICK KRAGGER, ASHTON BLAZE, AND PETER BROKK.  KILL THEM IN ANY FASHION YOU WISH, BUT EXCEPT FOR THEM, STAY UNSEEN.  I WOULD PREFER IF YOUR EXISTENCE STAYS A SECRET FOR NOW.

2 KYLE:                                                         UNDERSTOOD.  I'LL GET TO IT.

Panel 5.  KYLE is flying through the air with his kinetic boosters and stabilizers lit up blue.  He is turned backwards looking at the complex from the sky.  Everything is dark due to him still being inside the masking field.

1 KYLE(narration box)                                  I'VE NEVER BEEN OUT HERE BEFORE.  THIS PLACE IS MASSIVE!  I MEAN I KNEW IT HAD TO BE WITH ALL OF THE TRAINING ROOMS, I MAPPED OUT HALF THIS MUCH IN MY HEAD WITH THE AMOUNT THAT I SAW; USING MY BRAIN NODE THINGIES AND THEIR PHOTOGRAPHIC MEMORY...

1 WILLIAM (narration box)                          THE EXPLOSIVE IN PROTOTYPE 005’S NECK WORKS AS A CRUDE TRACKING DEVICE; SHARING THE SAME ENERGY SOURCE AS THE EXPLOSIVE IN ORDER TO PREVENT DETECTION.  HE THINKS I CAN’T KEEP TABS ON HIM.  HE WILL FOLLOW MY ORDERS.

1 KYLE (narration box)                                 I’M OVER KENTUCKY NOW.  I’M GETTING CLOSE TO DILBANE.  I HAVE TO BUY TIME.  FOUR HAS TO HACK INTO WILLIAM’S DATABASE OR WE’RE BOTH DEAD.  I’VE BETTER MASK MY PRESENCE.  I WOULDN’T WANT TO HAVE SOMEONE CALL THE MILITARY ABOUT A BLACK AND BLUE FLYING METAL MAN.

Panel 2.  Same view with same background, but KYLE is gone.

1 KYLE (narration box)                                 NOW NO ONE CAN SEE ME. STORY OF MY LIFE.

1 IRENE:                                                        SO THEY DIDN’T KICK YOU TWO OUT?

2 AL:                                                               NO, IF THEY KICKED ME OUT, THEY’D HAVE TO KICK NICK OUT.  HIS DAD WOULD EAT OUT THE PRINCIPAL’S ASS IF HE SUSPENDED HIS PRECIOUS SON.

Panel 2. Close up on the side of Irene’s face talking to Al.  She’s leaning over as if she is trying to keep the conversation between them.

1 IRENE:                                                        THINGS HAVE BEEN PRETTY BAD SINCE YOU LEFT.  NICK IS ACTUALLY THE LOWEST PART OF THE SHIT PILE.

Panel 3. Close up in the same manner towards AL.

2 AL:                                                               IN WHAT WAY?

Panel 4. The wall next to the door cracks and dust shoots out of the wall as if something hit the other side with extreme force.  The students have fallen out of chairs, gotten under their desks, or running away from the wall.

Panel 1.  AL is standing next to his desk.  IRENE is under her desk.  Other students are panicking in the background. 

1 IRENE:                                                        GET DOWN!  THAT SOUNDED LIKE A BOMB! 

2 AL:                                                               THAT WASN’T AN EXPLOSION. 

Panel 2.  AL is walking towards the door next to the indention in the wall.  He looks unafraid.  NO DIALOGUE.
